Expanding the clinical workspace
We initiated this project to add a new layer of flexibility to the modern healthcare environment. We know that the desktop computer remains the central hub for detailed review, printing, and email correspondence. However, the reality of hospital work is that clinicians are constantly in motion.
We realised that to support this dynamic workflow, we needed to extend the workspace beyond the desk. The goal was not to replace the computer but to bridge the gap between the patient interaction and the final review. We wanted to offer a seamless handoff between mobile capture and desktop management.
The MedWrite Watch Project
Our engineering team focused on a specific goal. We wanted to bring clinical AI capabilities to the Apple Watch to handle the immediate task of data capture. This allows the physician to use the right tool for the right moment. The watch serves as a lightweight and instant input device while the desktop remains the command center for final verification.

As seen in our recent development previews, this project enables immediate audio capture at the point of care. A doctor can finish a consultation and simply tap "Record" on their wrist while walking to the next patient. They can dictate an ED GP Letter, a referral, or a note naturally. By the time they sit down at their desktop station, our cloud architecture has already processed the audio and drafted the document. It is ready for them to review, print, or email without a single moment of wasted time.
Architecting for the wrist
Deploying to a wearable required us to rethink the architecture of clinical data flow to ensure it complements the desktop experience. We focused on two core engineering pillars for this project:
Looking ahead
This project marks a fundamental shift in how we view clinical systems. We are moving toward a model where the workflow is continuous instead of being segmented.
The intelligence layer now moves with the physician with ability to record a note or ED GP Letter from an Apple Watch is only the first phase of this growing ecosystem. In this setup, the watch handles the input while the desktop handles the output, ensuring both devices work in tandem. We are building this mobile infrastructure today to provide physicians with a complete and flexible toolkit that supports the full spectrum of their clinical work.
